The data you collect (about yourself, your family, your hobbies, and so on) and the medium used to store and organize that data is called a database. A database management system is a set of tools for managing data in a particular format. You could create your own tool set, or you could buy an existing one, One thing all database management systems include is database engine. database engine is the application, such as Mircosoft Access or Oracle that manipulates the data in your database. The database engine is the heart of you database management system, and it will usually be either an object orientes or relational database engine. The object oriented system, which is gaining popularity, is still not available on the average desktop PC. A relational database is made up of tables. Each table contains rows . information about each object stored in the table. A row contains data about one object of information. A row is made up of columns of information the describe an individual object. Each database file may contain multiple table and each table may contain multiple columns. A single table or multiple tables may also be accessed via view. A view is logical subset of a table or a combination of tables. The view defines a different way to access, or see the table's data, but it does not contain data itself The view allows you to create further logical relationships between tables without, creating a second copy of the data.
