An extended link is a link that associates an arbitrary number of resources. The participating resources may be in any combination of remote and local. If all the resources are remote, the link is out of line. If any of the resources are local, then the link is in line.

The XLink element type for extended links is any element with an XLink namespace attribute called type with a value of "extended".

The extended type element contains a mixture of the following elements in any order, possibly along with other content and mar kup:

locator type elements that address the remote resources participating in the link ,
arc type elements that provide traversal rules among the link's participating resources,
title type elements that provide human readable labels for the link and
resource type elements that supply local resources that participate in the link.

The following code illustrates an in line extended link:

<testlink>
<block>Connects to home page
<mylink xml:link="Extende" inline="true" title="pentafour">

<locator xml:link="locator" href="home.html title="Homepage">

<locator xml:link="locator" href="edu.html title="Education">
<locator xml:link="locator" href="proj.html title="Projects">
<locator xml:link="locator" href="media.html title="Multimedia">
</mylink>
</block>
</testlink>

'The above code defines a single link whose attributes are xml:link, in line, title. The locator element is the one which gives the address and information in line about the links. The attributes of the locator element are xml:link, href and title.
