The browser objects are arranged in a hierarchy that corresponds to the structure of loaded Web page and the current state of the browser. You know that an object consists of properties, which are also objects. These kind of child objects are termed as nested objects. The nested structure of an object is known as hierarchy. The object, which does not have a parent object, is the highest level object. Browser objects are examples of hierarchy usage. The following diagram shows the objects hierarchy.

The window object is the topmost object in the entire structure. Usually it is no necessary to specify the window object when you refer to, its properties. For instance document object is a property of window. But if you want to write anything to the current window you simply write document.write(" ") instead of window.document.write(" "). Therefore it is obvious that the window object being the topmost in the hierarchy acts as the default object.
