Microsoft Internet Information Server

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) comes bundled with Microsoft.,Windows 2000 Server operating systems. IIS serves equally well as an intranet Web server or as a public Web server program, and thus it is popular for both public sites and corporate intranet sites. Small sites running personal Web pages use IIS, as do some of the largest electronic commerce sites on the Web.

IIs, as a Microsoft product, was designed to run only on the Windows NT and 2000 operating systems. It will run on the Windows XP operating system, but it is not included as a standard part of that product's distribution. IIS includes an integrated search engine that allows users to create customized search forms with a variety of tools, including active server pages (ASP), Active X .Data Objects, and SQL database queries. IIS also includes the Mier site development tool and other reporting tools.

IIS creates log files in a standard format. Like most other Web server products, 118 supports automatic cycling or achieving of log file. The Microsoft Management Console (MMC), which is included in IIS, provides central server management from any server on the network. IIS also permits administration from a remote browser.
