Java Web Server Administration

To invoke the administration tool , we need to access the administration port of the server with a java enabled Web browser.

Login and LogOut
To Log In:
Enter a user name and password and click Log In.
9 If you are logging in to the Java Web Server for the first time:
The user name is "admin'.
The password is "admin"

To Log Out:
Click Log Out (on the Manage Servers and Services screen)

The Properties page allows us to edit some properties of the administration tool. Specifically, it allows you to change the following:

Administration password used to gain access to the Administration Tool, by using the Administration Password card.

Port you use in the URL that starts the Administration Tool, by using the External Port card.

Port through which the Java Web Server handles its administrativ
e communications, by using the Internal Port card.

This document describes these three cards, and the buttons at the bottom of the Properties page.

Administration Password Card has two fields: Password and Verify Password. This card is used to change the password that we used to gain access to the Administration Tool:

At the Password prompt Administration Password:

1. The Administration Password, type in the new password

2. At the Verify Password prompt, type it again
3. Click OK or Apply to save the change

External Port Card

The External Port Card has one field: External Port

To change the port that you use in the URL that starts the Administration Tool:

1 . At the External Port prompt, type in the new port

2. Click OK or Apply to save the change

Internal Port Card

The Internal Port Card has a table with two columns: Server Name and Port. To change the port through which a server handle's its administrative communications..

1 . Click on the port that you want to change. (This allows the cell in the table to be edited.)

2. Change the port number.

3. Click OK or Apply to save the change.

and Services

The Manage Servers and Services page shows the current state of the Java Web Server and lists the services that are installed and running on your machine. These a re:

• Web Service A standard HTTP protocol service. It listens on the default port 8080.

• Secure Web Service Allows the addition of a secure HTTP (HTTPS) service It listens on the default port 7070.

• Proxy Service Allows the addition of a proxy for improved caching and faster performance. It listens on the default port 6060.

Procedures

To Manage a Service

• Click on the service to highlight it, then click the Manage button.

• Alternatively, you can simply double click on the service.

To Restart a Server or Service

1. Click on the server or service to highlight it.
2. Click the Restart button

To Shutdown a Service

Click on the service to highlight it

Click on the Yes button when the dialog box asks you to confirm that you want to shut down all servers

To Log Out of This Administration Tool

9 Click the Log Out button. This returns you to the Java Web Server login screen,

To Get Help

Click the Help button. This displays a Help page for the screen you are viewing, or the Help table of contents.

At the bottom of the page there are four buttons:

• Manage Allows you to see and change the characteristics of the highlighted service. This button is grayed out and cannot be used when the server is highlighted.

Restart To run a stopped server or service, you must restart it explicitly with the Start button, httpd will not try to start them the next time it is invoked".

Stop Stops the execution of the highlighted server or service. if you choose stop with a server highlighted, the server and all its services are shut down. This button is greyed out and cannot be used when a server or service is highlighted and its status is "Not Running".

• Shutdown Stops the execution of all running servers and services shown on the Manage Servers and Services page. After you use the Shutdown button, you can no longer start or administer a server or service using the administration GUI. You must, instead, restart by invoking httpd. The httpd command will then restart all servers and services that were running when shutdown was invoked.
