The Layer Palette![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
To display the Layer palette select Show Layers from the Window menu. Using Layer palette you can create or place images on separate transparent layers. You can also rearrange the layers and affect the way the layers interact. Most of the time when you will open an image and its Layers palette you will get a single layer. This layer is called Background layer. This layer always resides at the bottom position and can't be dragged to another position. De facto you can do a lot with this Layer palette.
There is a thumbnail preview in each layer, which shows the contents of that layer. Select Palette option from the Palette menu to choose the size of thumbnail. An Eye icon can be seen at the leftmost position of a layer as shown in Fig 4.20. The presence of Eye icon means that the layer is visible. If you click, when Eye Icon is there, then it goes away. Click again to bring it back. The Paintbrush icon indicates that the Layer is active. You can make a layer active by clicking on it. Other icons appear at the place of Paintbrush icon when you add layer mask or link layers together.
