When you want to affect the multiple layers at the same time or modify the content then you can link the layers and do so. You can apply transformations, color adjustments, and filter effects on the linked layers. You can move the contents of these layers as a group using the Move tool.

To link the layers, first of all select one of the layers you want to link in the layers palette., Click on the embossed box to the left of another layer's thumbnail preview to link that layer to the active layer. A symbol of link appears at the embossed box. For additional layers to be included in the linked group do this. Click and drag inside the image window with the Move tool and see that all the linked layers move together.

You may want to align the content of the linked layers vertically or horizontally. You may also want to distribute the contents of the linked layers so that the distance between the objects is equidistant. For all alignment operation choose Align Linked from Layers menu and choose from the available alignment options. Note that the anchor layer for the alignment will be the layer, which is active. Choose Distribute Linked from the Layer menu to select the way you want the space between the objects on your linked layers to be distributed. This option will be available only when you have more than two layers linked.
