Optimization Hints

The discussion so far is how the Oracle optimizer works. You may also impose your execution wishes on the optimizer by utilizing hints. Hints are your suggestions to the optimizer that can specify any of the following:

The optimization approach for a SQL statement
The goal of the cost based approach for a SQL statement
The join order for a join statement
A join operation in a Join statement.
