Whenever a site is updated the information has to be provided to the users. This can be done by using the SCHEDULE element. Scheduling information can be provided to a channel or to individual items in a channel. The syntax of the schedule element is as follows:

<SCHEDULE STARTDATE=2000-01-15" STOPDATE="2000-10-17"
TIMEZONE="+0530">
<INTERVALTIMEDAY="7"/>
<EARLIESTIMEDAY="1" HOUR="0" MIN="0"/>
<LATESTIME DAY="2" HOUR="12 MIN="0"/>
</SCHEDULE>

There are three attributes present in the SCHEDULE element namely STARTDATE, STOPDATE and TIMEZONE. The value of the STARTDATE attribute identifies the beginning of the schedule and the value of the STOPDATE identifies when the schedule ends. The date format followed is as follows: a four digit numeric year, a two digit numeric month and a two digit day of the month. The difference between the server's time and the G MT is given by the TIMEZONE attribute. If the TIMEZONE attribute is not mentioned then the scheduled update takes place according to the reader's time zone. The schedule element can have three child elements namely INTERVALTIME, EARLIESTTIME and LATESTTIME. INTERVALTIME specifies how often the browser should check the channel for updates. The EARLIESTTIME and LATESTTIME are optional elements that specify the time between which the browser should check for updates.
