The <SCRIPT> Tag

As a Web browser reads an HTML file from left to right and top to bottom, a process called a parser carefully reads each <, >, /, =, and space character to determine the look and function of a Web page. The <SCRIPT> </SCRIPT> tag pair parses well because it is standard HTML syntax. The parser reads the text after the <SCRIPT> tag and passes it to the script handler. It does this till it encounters the </SCRIPT> tag and resume its web page handling, Older Web browsers that have no script handling routines simply throw away the contents of the <SCRIPT> </SCRIPT> tag pair with no adverse side effects.
