Using the electronic cash![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
The money, which has now been procured from the bank, is stored in the customer's computer within the e-cash software. A customer is free to use it anywhere on the Internet, provided the merchant accepts e-cash. The hassles of opening accounts with various merchants or transmitting credit card numbers is done away with. The software on the browser does all the thinking, and collects the necessary amount from the stored tokens whenever a purchase is made. The example given below is from a demo of a particular e-cash vendor. It shows how easy could cyber shopping be made through ecash. The first figure here is the welcome page of a site who sells goods over the net. It is to be noted that the merchant accepts e-cash and the customer has to have an account with the e-cash vendor.
When you click the "Buy me now" button a second page appears giving the details of your transaction and asking you to confirm the order. Now when you click to submit payment, the software on your browser starts working and confirms with the details in the applet window. In the applet window, a which summary of the transaction is shown and you are asked for a final confirmation. This window is generated from the server, but only after it has counterchecked with your browser software for availability of e-cash membership and required amount of cash (we can see the window here only because this is a demo, and not an actual transaction.
